Strokes are a high impact pathology, as they are the leading cause of acquired disability and cost $32 billion in the EU and rising. Strokes cause paralysis and/or sensory-motor deficits, for which the current motor rehabilitation treatments do not offer effective solutions or are an option for seriously affected patients.
NEWRO is a neurorehabilitation therapy based on a hybrid brain-machine interface with a modular design that allows all the levels of disability and needs of the stroke patients to be covered, from slight to severe.
The brain and muscular activity of the patient is deciphered to control a robotic exoskeleton in real time. Its 7 degrees of freedom allow combined movement training of the arm and hand; its price is competitive.
There are 4 million chronic stroke patients and 680,000 new patients in Europe each year. The brain-machine interface market has projected growth of EUR 5,500 million in 2030, with a CAGR of 14%.
Its potential customers are initially private and subsequently public clinics, hospitals and stroke rehabilitation centres.
