The Mutriku Wave Power Plant was the first commercial installation in Europe to use wave energy to generate electricity. It is located inside the breakwater that protects Biscay Port. The power plant uses unique technology to obtain energy, the “Oscillating Water Column” (OWC), which, to date, has achieved a significant cumulated production, exceeding 2.4 GWh.
The Basque Energy Board (Ente Vasco de la Energía) is launching a preliminary consultation to evaluate the market interest in the Public Procurement of Innovation for the development of air turbines to be applied in the Mutriku wave power plant. In order to present the TurboWave challenge to its potential stakeholders, next Thursday, 3 February, an Informative Webinar (in English) will be held from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. with the following program:
10:00 | Opening. Objectives of the Preliminary Market Consultation. Susana Larrea. Strategic Transitions Area. SPRI Group. |
10:10 | TurboWave Challenge. Endika Aldaiturriaga. Renewable Energy Technician. Basque Energy Board (Ente Vasco de la Energía). |
10:40 | Question time. |
11:15 | Next procurement phases. Olatz Ajuria. Renewable Energy Area Technician. Basque Energy Board (Ente Vasco de la Energía). |
11:25 | Closing. |
Among the main groups of professionals potentially interested in this informative webinar on the TurboWave challenge are technical, sales, commercial and financial managers of technology development companies (complete devices and subsystems/components), engineering companies, consultancy firms, the utility sector, as well as universities, technology centres and project developers (final consumers of technology).
The objective is to acquire technologically innovative solutions for air turbines that can be used in the Mutriku Wave Power Plant and other general needs of the Wave Energy sector.
The challenge involves the design, development and demonstration of a cost-effective, reliable and safe air turbine system for producing electricity. The proposed technologies will be evaluated in terms of efficiency-performance, controllability, reliability, maintainability and affordability. Finally, two to eight generators are expected to be purchased.
Informative Webinar: 03/02/2022 10:00-11:30am
