Augmented reality system for robotic spine surgery

Cyber Surgery
Cyber Surgery

Cyber Surgery is a company founded in 2017 as a spin-off of Egile Coporation industrial group and they focus on the development of a robotic assistant for spin surgeries. They guide the surgeon using a robot and information based on medical imaging, which allows the surgeon to perform the operation in a minimally invasive way, thus facilitating the patient’s recovery and making it with more precision.   In Cyber Surgery ‘s video, you will see in detail how they were faced with the need to use augmented reality technologies that make possible to superimpose medical images on reality, giving the surgeon back the vision of the anatomy of the patient he is going to operate on, without making him lose the vision of the surgical field.

Need:

To implement an augmented reality system for robotic spine surgery, to allow the surgeon to visualize computer-generated images directly on his field of vision. In minimally invasive surgeries, the surgeon normally only makes small cuts in the area where the screws are to be inserted, preventing him from seeing the anatomy of the patient to be operated on.

Area of the company where the solution is focused:

Manufacture of medical and dental instruments and supplies

Company size:

PYME

Sector:

Manufacture of medical and dental instruments and supplies

Location:

Donostia - San Sebastián (Gipuzkoa)

Benefits of the Solution:

  • The increase of the battery life to allow its use in the operating room
  • The increase of the information they provide to the surgeon, to develop a possible product, either integrated with the surgical robot we are developing, or as a separate product
  • It opens up lines of future research to improve our product

Incorporated Technologies:

  • Augmented Reality
  • Hololens Glasses
  • Streaming computational architecture
