Get to know the assets of the BDIH: prototyping laboratory

The prototyping laboratory of Tekniker is dedicated to the integral design of health products while complying with the specific standards for medical devices ISO 13485. Through the use of digital tools and rapid prototyping systems, they are able minimize development costs before going on to the experimentation phases having checked simulation results to select the best alternatives.

Tekniker, via this asset belonging to the node of Medical Devices and Digital Health, offers the businesses strategic advisory services and guidance in the development and co-development of new products or services. After a first contact, a detailed state of the art is elaborated in terms of the technologies involved including aspects of intellectual property and based on the assessment the idea-product is weighed to analyse its viability prospects.

By means of this asset, the companies can request proofs of concept which ease the creation of minimally viable products to test the functionality of the key technologies and the development of prototypes for their validation in relevant usage environments. In this way, it is possible to reduce the resources needed to obtain the final design, with a lower number of changes, having undergone different stages of validation and being able to carry out a risk analysis along the process.

Use case

The AttenBio company, located in the Miramon Technologt Park of Donosti, is dedicated to the development of advanced biosensors based on nanoelectronics and biochemistry. The business has made use the of this prototyping laboratory to design an encapsulated as a proof of concept to take it into a more commercial level through microfluidics.

At Tekniker, experienced in the development of biomedical prototypes, they have provided advise, assessed their technical proposal and lend a hand in the development of the prototype.

In this video about the use case, you can get more details about this partnership between AttenBio and Tekniker, through the BDIH Konexio Programme, which has served for the development of an intuitive single-use prototype for the detection of respiratory virus and infectious diseases.
